The London Congestion Charge is a daily fee imposed since February 17, 2003, that motorists have to pay to enter into the Congestion Charge zone in London during the weekdays and weekends. Enforced by Transport for London (TfL), it is a scheme designed to create clean air zones in the hotspots of London. Failure to pay this fee would result in you getting fined £160. However, if you pay within 14 days, it will be reduced to £80.

Today, the Congestion Charge in London stands at £15 per day for motorists and drivers who want to enter central London, where the Congestion Charge zone starts. As you can guess from its name, the point of this scheme is to reduce the traffic congestion in central London. This fee is imposed between 7 am and 6 pm during the weekdays and 12:00 to 18:00 during weekends, and bank holidays.

The best way to pay and avoid getting fined is to set up an auto-pay account with TFL. An annual £10 registration charge will apply to each vehicle you add to Auto Pay.

Auto Pay, TFL will bill you automatically for the number of charging days your vehicle travels within the Congestion Charge area.

To set up your auto-pay account please go to the TFL official website and search for auto-pay or click the following link: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/auto-pay

Then, click on Set up Auto Pay – Personal and click on Create an account.

Then, fill in the boxes with the requested information and press continue, accept the terms and conditions, and continue. It will then ask you to answer a few security questions; Place of Birth, Mother’s Maiden name, and Memorable Date and set a password at the final stage.

Please make sure to take note of your Customer ID and sign in with the password you set. You will need our car registration and bank details at this stage to fill in the required information and you are all set up.
