In a busy city like London, drivers are more likely to get involved in an accident than in other parts of the country. Here is a short guide for what you must do immediately after the accident to protect yourself and prevent further complications.

Immediately after the accident

• If it is safe to do so, stop your car immediately after the accident. Switch off your car engine and then switch on the hazard light.
• Do not move the car from the scene of the accident.
• Check if you or your passengers are injured.
• Call an ambulance if you or your passengers are injured.
• Do not accept responsibility for the accident if you are not fully aware of the situation. You might think you are responsible, but we need to check the dashcam footage to confirm who was at fault.

Exchanging details at the scene of the accident

• Immediately after getting out of your car, you must take a few photos of the accident scene. You must take a few photos from different angles so the case handler can see the exact position of all cars at the scene of the accident. This way, your case handler can identify who was responsible for the accident quicker.
• You need to take a photo of the registration number of all vehicles involved in the accident.
• By law, it is required that all the drivers involved in the accident exchange personal and motoring details with each other, regardless of who was responsible for the accident.
• The following information should be exchanged at the scene of the accident:
• Name, last name, address, and telephone number
• Insurance details (insurance company name and policy number).
• If the other vehicle is foreign-registered, you must obtain their green slip.
• Takedown details of all passengers and witnesses.
• Try to find out if the other driver is the car’s registered keeper – if not, get the registered keeper’s details from the other driver/s.
• Take a note of the accident’s date, time, and location.
• Take a few photos of the damage to your car and other vehicle/s involved in the accident.

Once we receive the information from you, we will contact you and inform you what the next steps are.

Make an accident claim

If you are not responsible for the accident, we have two options:

• If the damage to our car is not significant, we will try to settle the matter with the other driver. If the other driver does not accept covering the repair cost of our vehicle, we will refer the matter to our solicitors and our insurance company.
• If the damage to our car is significant, we will ask you to return our car back to our office so we can either repair the car or provide you with a replacement vehicle (depending on availability).

If you are responsible for the accident, we will charge you the insurance excess fee (£500), and we will ask you to return the car back to us for repair. We will provide you with a replacement vehicle, depending on availability.
